Winter Workshop Brings Together European Partners for Sustainable Building Innovation

On February 4th, industry partners and researchers gathered at Leipfinger-Bader's site in Pfeffenhausen, Germany, for a collaborative winter workshop demonstrating the power of cross-project innovation in sustainable construction.

Cross-Project Collaboration for Knowledge Exchange

The workshop brought together 21 participants from the two complementary EU Horizon Europe projects EASI ZERo and INBUILT, alongside external experts from both industry and education. This collaboration created an opportunity for knowledge exchange, helping in the transition toward a more sustainable building sector across Europe.

Partners including Leipfinger-Bader, MPA University of Stuttgart, Heinrich Feeß, and Sievert SE presented their work through slides, and also brought tangible products and prototypes. These physical innovations demonstrated the real-world applications of bio-based and sustainable building materials currently being developed.

Showcasing Innovation in Practice

A highlight of the day was the guided tour of Leipfinger-Bader's production facilities, where participants witnessed the manufacturing of insulated blind boxes, which is an innovative EASI ZERo solution addressing one of buildings' most significant energy vulnerabilities. These specially designed boxes provide enhanced thermal insulation around roller shutters, tackling heat loss at windows where buildings typically lose most of their heat during colder months.

The tour also included visits to a clay R&D building and demonstration site, showcasing how sustainable material innovation is happening across both projects.

Looking Ahead

As EASI ZERo approaches its final phase, this workshop is part of an intensive period of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Several workshops are planned for the coming months, each designed to consolidate findings, strengthen partnerships, and ensure that innovative bio-based building materials can effectively support the sustainable renovation of Europe's building stock.

The February gathering proved that when projects with aligned goals come together, this results in an inspiring exchange of ideas, meaningful professional connections, and renewed momentum toward achieving a more energy efficient future for European
