PRODUCT DEEP DIVE: BioPUR Window Frames
Windows are critical thermal weak points in buildings. Today we explore BioPUR window frames, developed by EASI ZERo partner INDRESMAT with support from Leitat Technological Center. These frames combine bio-based materials with high thermal performance.
What are they?
BioPUR window frames utilize bio-based polyurethane with optimized thermal properties. These frames achieve excellent thermal resistance, significantly outperforming conventional PVC and aluminum alternatives.
Applications
- Window frames for new buildings
- Replacement frames for renovation projects
- Integration with insulated shutter casings for complete thermal solutions
Environmental benefits
- Reduced carbon footprint: Goals of up to 75% non-emitting content, reducing fossil resource dependency
- Resource efficiency: Lightweight design uses less material while maintaining performance
- Improved end-of-life options (reusability, reparability, and recycling)
- Improved safety: No toxic gas release throughout lifecycle
Window frames typically account for 30% of a building's heat loss, making these frames a critical component in achieving near-zero energy buildings.
